VA Announces New National Archives in Dayton, OH
On April 12, 2016, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald announced that the Dayton VA Medical Center has been officially selected as the site for the National Department of Veterans Affairs Archives. VA and its predecessor agencies have records from before the Revolutionary War. Many of these historic materials are stored at facilities of the National Archives and Records Administration in the Washington, D.C. area. Many other documents are spread across the country in its 150 facilities under less-than-optimum storage conditions. The VA claims that its Archive at Dayton will enable VA to organize and protect its important heritage and eventually share VA’s rich history with the public.
